Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actor who was famous for her portrayal as the fierce lawyer Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. When she got married, she changed her name to Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an interest in acting from the age of five and was awarded an award for the best Actress award at an Maryland high school competition. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year, she was awarded the leading role. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 productions of Pericles. The opportunity was presented to her to join Stratford Conservatory. It allows only eight males and four women for a crash course in classical theatre. Contractor was eager to accept. Contractor received a guaranteed slot for the following season and was given the role as Hermia.
